Two of the interns I followed in India worked with an organization called Jagran Jan Vikas Samiti. Like Astha, Jagran deals with a lot of issues relating to rural communities in southern Rajasthan, including health, sanitation, and land rights. The organization is based in Udaipur, but has a field office in a small village called Vali, about 30 miles from the city. From here, a small staff coordinates operations in about 30 villages. I took two trips to Vali, where I worked with locals, cooked with the field staff, and slept under the stars. It was one of the best parts about my time in India.
