One of the groups I worked with in India was Astha Sansthan. Astha works on various issues related to empowering citizens of rural areas in Rajasthan. On June 16, 2011, I accompanied a delegation from Astha to a conference several hours outside of Udaipur. The conference was a yearly meeting to discuss forest rights. Rural families in India have long had difficult asserting rights to their land. The Forest Rights Act of 2006 addressed some concerns, but many people still have complaints against the government.
